Sports Engineering Advancement Research (SPEAR)


The Sports Engineering Advancement Research (SPEAR) formerly known as Biomechanics & Sports Engineering Research Cluster (BioMSE), founded in February 2013 under the ADCARe which is one of the Research Groups in the Faculty of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering in Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. The aim of this research focus group has never changed which is to gather resources, research and findings in sports engineering and biomechanics under one roof. The focal objectives of The Sports Engineering Advancement Research (SPEAR) are to convey knowledge, resources and expertise among sports engineering and biomechanics researchers, to collaborate researchers from various disciplinary for sports engineering and biomechanics implementations, and finally to use research facilities to characterize, process and evaluate various sports engineering and biomechanics findings toward sustainability. The keyphrase of this focus group is 'sports performance' where the directions are mainly on sports equipment mechanics and sports biomechanics. The sports equipment mechanics cluster is focused on developing a better understanding of sports equipment and its environment. This research theme uses fundamental physics, experiments and modelling techniques to optimise sporting equipment for performance, injury reduction and participation. The sports biomechanics cluster is aimed to develop and apply ecologically valid measurement tools and techniques for use in sport and health. We use our expertise in biomechanics, engineering, sensor technology and computer programming to perform biomechanical analysis out of the lab, in the field.
