Bioactive Material (BioMa)

Background

BioMa is involved on the development, characterization and mechanical behavior of biomaterials used in the applications of biomedical implants and tissue enginnering. One focus of BioMa is on synthesis, characterization and fabrication of bioactive materials for biomedical implants. The research includes the synthesis of bioactive hydroxyapatite and the surface modification of metallic biomaterials.

Further, the group is also involved on the development biomimetic scaffolds used in tissue engineering. An electrospinning technique has been developed to produce networks of fibres with diameters one millionth of a metre or less. These fibrous networks mimic those found in many natural materials and have potential applications as human tissue replacements.
