In fluid dynamics, a fundamental field of science & engineering, flow visualization and simulation is an important and active research area. Applications of this research are inter-disciplinary and far reaching, including energy production technologies, vehicle design, and even weather forecasting. To achieve common goals and to streamline the utilization of resources, FASTREG (formerly known as FAST) has been established since 2014 by a group of researchers that share mutual interest in fluid dynamics. The group focuses on both the experimental and the computational side of fluid dynamics, with specialization on the topic of turbulence modeling as well as visualization of flow. Members of the group hold expertise in studies of gas turbine cooling, spray characterization and shock capturing, amongst others. This research group provides a point of reference for members of the UTHM community as well as the public in general who seek advice and consultation for applications related to fluid flow. In the future, the group aims to develop a centralized infrastructure that is capable of catering for high performance computing.
