Academic Benchmarking Visit to Universiti Teknologi Petronas and Universiti Malaysia Perlis

Improving university performance has become an indisputable issue in the increasingly competitive environment. The Faculty is always trying to improve the quality of programme through benchmarking exercises, in which the comparative strengths and opportunities for improvement can be identified, and best practices can be adopted. Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering has organized a benchmarking visit to Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) on 27th March 2019.  

The delegation was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salihatun bt Md Salleh, Ts. Dr. Ahmad Mubarak bin Tajul Arifin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ong Pauline and Ts. Dr. Muhammad Faisal bin Mahmod.

Held in the meeting room of Department of Mechanical Engineering, UTP, the Coordinator of Outcome Based Education Committee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zainal Ambri bin Abdul Karim briefed the delegation about the implementation and assessment of five criteria been highlighted in the Engineering Accreditation Council Manual 2017 in UTP, which are:

  • Programme Educational Objectives
  • Programme Learning Outcomes
  • Academic Curriculum
  • Student Credit Exemption
  • Academic and Support Staff

The discussion was also attended by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Amin bin Abd Majid and Cik Farah bt Abdul Latif.

The following day, the delegation continued on to School of Manufacturing Engineering (PPKP), Universiti Malaysia Perlis. The delegation was greeted by the management team of PPKP, headed by the Deputy Dean of Academic & Research, Ir. Dr. Mohd Fathullah bin Ghazli @ Ghazali. The discussion was joined by Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Alumni, Dr. Norshah Afizi Shuaib and Programme Chairman for Industrial Network and Quality Manager, Dr. Tan Chye Lih.
