The research center was formerly known as Advanced Manufacturing Research Group, AMRG. Established in 2011 and lead by Assoc. Prof. Dr Erween Abd Rahim with other members, the group was regarded as one of the leading group in University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia that focuses on advanced machining and materials research for aerospace and other high-value manufacturing.The principal focus of this group is to understand and characterise the influence of material removal processes on workpiece surface integrity such as surface roughness, microhardness, microstructure alterations, residual stress, crack formation, thermal damage and fatigue performance as well as subsequent part functionality. The main aspects of machining element such as identification of process variables, optimum operating and tool performance (tool wear and tool life evaluation) with respect to defined response parameters also considered. For the machined materials, the research attention is on the conventional materials, ranging from steel or aluminium and to some of the most high-tech materials, such as titanium alloy, nickel-based alloys or carbon fibre-reinforced plastics (CFRP).
In 2015, due to the excellence research performance and achievement, it was upgraded to a research center that changed its name to Precision Machining Research Center, PREMACH.
